A final project conference took place in Istanbul on October 9, 2026. The event had a duration of 4 hours from 9.30 – 13.30.

The event was attended by approximately 60 school educators from the area of Istanbul, volunteers working for green goals, and others.

The audience was first familiarised with the concepts of biomimicry, a process that helps learners design solutions inspired by natural models and processes through a series of steps: DEFINE, BIOLOGIZE, DISCOVER, ABSTRACT, EMULATE and EVALUATE.

The speakers presented characteristic biomimicry solution examples, such as natural building cooling inspired by termite mounds, quitter and more aerodynamic Shirkanen train inspired by the kingfisher’s beak, and more.

The audience was further familiarised with the LET’s MIMIC project objectives, activities, and outcomes, including the Biomimicry Learning Platform, the Self-Regulated Learning Kit (including challenges, solutions, and open cases), and the comprehensive Training Modules.

Subsequently, the audience engaged in a hands-on workshop, using the LET’s MIMIC Biomimicry Platform to design solutions inspired by nature for improving quality of life and promoting sustainability in the metropolitan area of Istanbul. Participants worked in teams and followed the biomimicry steps for introducing novel ideas for mitigating air pollution, flooding, and climate change consequences through green spaces, air cleaning ideas inspired by spider webs, and more. Teams presented their solutions for the benefit of other participants.

The event was very successful, with participants being highly engaged and expressing concrete interest in uptaking and adapting project outcomes, including the Biomimicry Platform and learning resources.
